Past Tense Verbs – Write & Read Pack
This simple write and read pack for past tense verbs can help learners practice finding and using the _ed ending to read longer words. {Note: There are no 1-1-1 base words or e-drop words in this pack. If you’re looking for that, you’ll like my Inflected Ending Pack.}
The first activity in the pack are some write and read cards. These are great to use with a small group or one-on-one with learners. I recommend laminating, cutting them out, and then hole-punching them in the top corner so you can make a flip book like you see in the image below.
Learners use a dry erase marker to finish the word using the past tense -ed suffix {16 cards are included for short vowel words/bossy r words and 16 more are included for long vowel/CVVC words.} After learners write the word, they they read the word.
Six NO PREP pages have also been included in the pack. Two for short vowel/bossy r words, two for long vowel/CVVC words, and two mixed review pages that include all four base word patterns. Once again, learners finish the word by adding -ed, then they read the word aloud. {Note that the _ed ending has three sounds: /t/, /d/, and /id/, so be sure to offer support when needed!}

I work with middle school student using Wilson Reading. I love how adaptable your materials are. It’s difficult to find supplemental material for older students at such a low level that’s not too “babyish”. Thank you!
You’re welcome! 🙂
I love all the games you make to keep learning fun. I do think that there is a mistake in the d.t.ed endings.. From Orton Gillingham I learned that if the word ended in an unvoiced sound the ed said (t). If the word ended in a voiced sound the ed said (d). If the word ended in t or d the ed said (ed). This would be an easy fix for you. Thanks again for all you do to make learning fun.
Yes, I agree 100% with what you learned with OG training concerning the ed’s three sounds. Can you share with me where the mistake is? I’m having a hard time finding it. I’d like to fix it.
These are super awesome ,I m sure myself kids will love it ..thank u 😊
