By thisreadingmama Leave a Comment

Do you have any learners who need some work with reading words longer words? This Inflected Endings Pack  for _s and _ing is a great way to introduce and practice these endings!

Inflected Endings Pack - Write and Read for -ing and -s endings - This Reading Mama

Often times, learners will know words like jump. But when they see jumping, they freeze. It’s a long word! Oh no! When learners are familiar with common suffixes like -ing, -s, and -ed, they can spot those suffixes and use them to read the longer words.

This is just one of the tips I share on our free Strategies for Reading Longer Words reference page!

Inflected Endings Pack – Write & Read

I created this simple write and read pack for inflected endings to help learners practice finding and using the _ing and _s endings to read longer words. {Note: There are no 1-1-1 base words or e-drop words in this pack. You can find those in our Inflected Ending Pack. There are also no words that require _es. You can find those in our No Prep Plural Nouns Pack.}

The first activity in the pack are some write and read cards. These are great to use with a small group or one-on-one with learners. I recommend laminating, cutting them out, and then hole-punching them in the top corner so you can make a flip book.

Learners use a dry erase marker to finish the word using -ing or -s {16 cards are included for short vowel words/bossy r words and 16 more are included for long vowel/CVVC words.}

After learners write the word, they they read the word.

Six NO PREP pages have also been included in the pack. Two for short vowel/bossy r words, two for long vowel/CVVC words, and two mixed review pages that include all four base word patterns. Once again, learners finish the word by adding -ing or -s, then read the word aloud.

Our Inflected Endings BUNDLE is so helpful for the -ing, -ed, -s, and -es endings!
