Word Family Words - Write & Read Pack - This Reading Mama

Word Family Words: Write & Read

This write & read pack includes activities for these short vowel families:

  • short a: -at, -an, & -ad
  • short e: -et, -en, & -ed
  • short i: -ip, -it, & -ig
  • short o: -og, -ot, & -op
  • short u: -ut, -ug, & -ub

word family words - write and read dry erase cards

The first activity is the write and read cards. Learners use a dry erase marker to finish the word using the correct word family chunk. {Six different cards are included for each word family.} After learners write the word, they read the word.

Use these with a small group or one-on-one with learners. I highly recommend laminating, cutting them out, and then hole-punching them up in the top corner so you can make a flip book like you see in the image above.

Nine NO PREP pages have also been included in the pack: one for each short vowel and four mixed review pages {as seen in the image above}. Learners pick the word family chunk that completes the word and matches the picture, then they read the words.

Thanks for these Becky. This is just what I need for my 4 to begin spelling these words.
