Easter’s coming! Help get focused in on the reason for the Easter season with this 12 Days of Easter Reading Plan for kids!

You might also like our Resurrection Pre-K/K Pack if you have younger learners.

12 Days of Easter Reading Plan for Kids - free printables included - This Reading Mama

Starting at the very beginning, God begins to share his rescue plan with the world. This rescue plan has one main character: Jesus. These printable egg cards and devotions were designed to draw your attention to The Rescuer who came in the flesh to live, die, and RISE AGAIN!

I’ve chosen four Old Testament Stories that point to Christ {fall in the garden, Abraham and Issac, Joseph, and Jonah}, stories from the life of Jesus, and stories of his death and resurrection.

What you’ll need:

  • The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones – If you have or teach young children, this book is a MUST. She writes things in such an amazing way that will make you cry {and I’m not typically a crier.}
  • Your Bible – The daily reading plan also has Scripture verses you can read.
  • 12 plastic Easter eggs
  • a permanent marker to write 1-12 on the eggs
  • a basket/container or place to hide the eggs, one day at a time

How to Use the pack:

The pack has 12 cards you’ll cut out and put into Easter eggs that are labeled 1-12.

Younger children may enjoy it if you hide the numbered egg every day. Older kids may prefer to just pick the numbered egg out of a basket.

Printable Easter Story Reading Plan Cards

A 12 day Easter reading plan goes along with the Easter story egg printables. Use this reading plan starting 12 days before Easter (or double up some days). The story you need to read from The Jesus Storybook Bible is listed. A Scripture passages is also listed on each day that correlate with each story.

If you miss a day or two in your 12 days, it’s okay! You can combine 2 on the same day to catch up.

If you teach younger kiddos, be sure to snag our FREE Resurrection Pre-K/K Pack, too!

Enjoy teaching!

This is wonderful, Becky, thank you! I appreciate the combination of Old and New Testament stories. Thanks for helping us remember the meaning of Easter.

Thanks, Anna. It was sparked by a conversation I had with some friends in our church small group about Christmas and Easter. It seems Easter gets the shaft, but everything we believe depends upon it! If He didn’t rise, everything we live and teach is in vain.

I love having fun ways to remind my children what Easter is truly about. They are finally understanding that the entire Bible is one story, and this allows them to see the story unfold. Mine are obsessed with egg hunts, so I am hiding the 12 eggs each day and adding the picture cards to the eggs as we go along. That gives them the chance to quickly review what happened for each previous number using the picture card and then we add on the new part. Thanks for creating these!

You’re so smart to do a review each day. Love it!

I am a kindergarten teacher in a Lutheran school. We gift each student with the Jesus Storybook Bible each year at Christmas and use it in our classrooms during Jesus Time. I am excited to have this activity for several reasons: 1) The “Resurrection Eggs” that are sold are a great idea- meaningful and memorable, however are not age appropriate. Your activity, Becky, accomplishes that for my age student! I am so excited! 2) You refer directly to a quality Children’s Bible that is, in my opinion, the perfect balance between developmentally appropriate and not cartoony or too simple. This supports my explanation that the Bible is fact not fiction. While at the same time referencing THE BIBLE. 3) I can follow up by gifting this activity to each of my students to take home to their families as they have this Bible at home and will hopefully share it with everyone they know! What a great way to empower children to make disciples and share His Word. (Kristie, I am definitely going to use your idea to review each time.) Thank you!
