Learn to Read UB Word Family Reader & Activities
Each week, I’m honored to share freebies from each lesson of Learn to Read. So far, I’ve shared all our short a, short o, and short i readers. Last week, I shared our UG word family activities and this week, I’m sharing our UB word family.
The free color reader has lots of UB words (like sub, nub, tub, club, and cub) and the new sight words there and did. I print it front and back {short ways} and staple it with my long-arm stapler.
On our first day, we always do some sight word chants {either our animal chants or people chants} and rainbow roll & write with the new sight words.
The UB word family puzzles are a great way to work on blending sounds together to make words. And the picture helps learners know they’ve done it correctly.
Roll, Read, & Find is great for fluency, word family words, and sight words. Just roll, read, and find the UB words.
More UB Word Family & Sight Word Activities
The next few activities are from the bundled pack, Unit 4 of Learn to Read.
This week, she found our Wikki Stix that had been pushed to the back of our spelling drawer. So, we slipped the mat into a plastic sleeve protector and used Wikk Stix, instead of playdough, to spell the UB word family words. {If you’d like to use your Wikki Stix for more spelling, be sure to download my Bendy Stick Spelling Mats!}
She also made a little UB word family book by writing the UB words and coloring it in. Once colored in and cut out, we make a little book by hole punching it and attaching it to a 1-inch ring.
She often uses dot paint to do her sight word searches. This week, it was a different colored marker for each time she found there in the puzzle. Love her creativity!
She usually requests that not put a plastic sleeve protector on the sight word mats. She goes to town coloring the word. This time, instead of stamping the word, she used our letter tiles. I like how she can tailor it to what she wants and she’s still learning!
Besides the Color it Crazy, Roll & Race is probably her favorite activity. I love how simple it is! She always asks me which one I think will win. She cheers for the opposite word every time.
A simple game that we play towards the end of the week is Roll It! Read It! It’s as simple as it sounds. Just roll the die, move your marker on the game board and read the word. {If she misreads the word, I do help her either sound it out or remember the word to have her read it correctly.}
