Learn to Read – Short o Review
The FREE activities you’ll find in this free pack are:
A short o review reader called One Funny Dog. This reader reviews the OP Word Family, OG Word Family, and OT Word Family plus all the sight words found from the first 3 lessons of unit 2. I always use my long-arm stapler to put the word family books together. I love the look and feel of an actual book!
Rainbow Roll & Write with the new sight words, one and here. You might also like to use our free animal sight chants to have a little multi-sensory fun with spelling the sight words!
Short o Word Family Review Just Swap 1 with letter tiles. This game board is a great way to practice phonemic awareness {a skill needed for reading and spelling}. Each word on the game board changes by only one letter. Learners have to listen carefully and figure out which letter needs to be swapped out.
Also included in the free pack is a Roll, Read, & Find activity that helps learners practice reading with expression, handwriting, and reviewing those short o words/sight words. {I didn’t get a picture of her in action this time.}
But we did pull out our short o puzzles from lessons 1-3 and she had fun putting them all together and reading them. These are free to download. Just look for them in downloads of the first 3 short o word families.
Short o Review Activities from Unit 2 of Learn to Read
The following activities are from the bundle pack of Unit 2, which can be purchased at my shop or on my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
Color it Crazy is ALWAYS a big hit, since this girl loves to color. We laugh at how silly the picture looks when it’s finished.
The search and sort is fun, as she searches for short o word family words in the picture and then sorts/writes them below. {If time allows, she likes to color it when she’s finished.}
To mix in some writing, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Roll and Write! This activity gets learners writing sentences using sight words and word family words they’ve studied from the unit. Then, they can draw a picture to go with each sentence.
We use two different colored dice. Both dice are rolled, matched up on the board and then the learner write a sentence using those two words. Full directions are in the bundle pack.
Climb & Slide Game is a fun way to practice reading those short o words. Included in the pack are several activities that practice all kinds of short o words, not just the ones from the word families we’ve studied in Unit 2. It’s played in similar fashion as Chutes and Ladders, just with short o words!
To review all the sight words from Unit 2, the NO PREP stamp and spell activity is perfect to make sight word practice a little more hands-on.
You can purchase the entire Short o Unit 2 of Learn to Read from my shop or my Teachers Pay Teachers Store.

Thank you so much for all your hard work! I just completed your Reading the Alphabet with my 5 year old to supplement our phonics program that does not incorporate sight words in their K program. Even my new 4 year old was showing signs that he was ready so we are about 8 lessons in with him! After we completed the last sight word my 5 yr old was bummed that he didn’t get a new word this week. Looks like we are arriving on your site just in time to follow along with your Learn To Read program to supplement with more sight word activities. Thanks again!
You’re very welcome! 🙂 I’m so glad that you’ve been able to use these printables with your kiddos!
Thank you so much for all that you have created. It is absolutely lovely!!!
Thank YOU! 🙂
