OT Word Family Reader & Activities
An easy way to introduce the OT word family is to use the word family puzzles. This is one that you do have to cut out, but it’s all straight lines. You can use a paper cutter to save time or even ask the learner to cut them out.
The sight word rainbow writing is no prep and such an effective way to get kids writing those spelling words. If words can be sounded out, I like to do that with her as she traces the letters. She still struggles a little with sounding out those decodable words, so any time I can model, I do.
The OT Word Family Roll, Read, and Find is another no prep activity that gets learners reading both the word family words and sight words. It’s also a great way to build fluency.
And then there’s the OT Word Family Reader, which features the new sight words (run and help), review sight words, and the OT word family.
Extra OT Word Family Activities from the Pack
The following activities are extras that cannot be found in the free pack. {I don’t have lots of extra pictures this week because hubby was out of town and the stomach bug decided to pay us a visit, so I apologize if you wanted to see more.} Two of these activities are from Unit 2 Short o Bundle Pack, and one activity comes from my Printable Spelling Activities and Games ebook.
One of my favorite resources in the bundle packs are the 1-page word family poems. These are so fun to write and are a great resource for reading aloud and comprehension. I try to make them funny to add laughter to our lesson. She helps me find the word family words and the new sight words. On day 2, we read the poem together again and she reads all the words she/I have highlighted or circled with my support.
The OT Word Family Stamp & Spell activity is a simple way to expose her to those word families through stamping and writing. This time, she worked the puzzles first, then did the stamping and spelling.
I printed off this mystery sight word spelling activity, from my Printable Spelling Activities & Games ebook, this week for her to do with her new and review sight words. I wrote the words in white crayon. She painted over the words with watercolor paint,
then wrote down the words that she found. Afterwards, she read them all to me.
