Learn to Read Short i Word Families
Note: The freebies included from this lesson are: 1- I Have It! reader, 2- Rainbow Roll & Write Sight Words, 3- Roll, Read, and Find page, and 4- Just Swap It! page. All other activities and printables can be found in the Unit 3 bundle pack at my shop or my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
To create the free word family review book, just print the pages front and back {short ways} and staple with a long armed stapler.
This is my twelfth free word family book I’ve shared from Learn to Read and I think it has been my absolute favorite one to write. A boy is stuck in a pit. His friends think they all have great a idea for getting him out. My daughter giggled quite a bit at some of the things that these friends try throwing down for him. Will he ever get out? 🙂
On day 1, I always introduce the two new sight words {have/out}, we do some sight word chants, and then she practices writing the sight words with our rainbow roll & write page. {Find even more Rainbow Roll & Write pages.}
Throughout the review week, we do other sight word activities, like
our dot mazes {we use our dot paint and sometimes our Power Magnets},
or roll and race.
We also throw in a little review for the sight words from all the short i word family lessons {Lesson 9-12}.
Another freebie from this lesson that I love is the Roll, Read, and Find page. We really work on reading with expression on this page! It also integrates sight words and word family words.
To review all three short i word families, the Spin and Spell game is perfect. Just use a pencil and a large paper clip as a DIY spinner.
Spin the beginning letter and the word family rime, then write and read the entire word. If it’s a real word, the learner circles it.
Our short i word families clip cards are also another great way to get kids listening beyond the first sound of the word through the word family rime.
On yet another day, she did our Dab It! short i word families page. This is a GREAT way to help kids sound through simple CVC words. {Of course, adding the dot paint markers add a dab of fun…pun intended!}
One of my favorite ways to get her sounding through words is our Just Swap 1 page. Learners work through the page and just swap 1 letter tile/sound each time until they get to the end. {This a freebie from this lesson.}
The Search & Sort page is a fun way for learners to search the picture for the three short i word families and spell them below.
