What are Affixes?
Affixes include both prefixes and suffixes. Prefixes go at the beginning of words and change the words meaning. For example, when school becomes preschool, it literally means “before school.” Suffixes go at the end of words and also change the words meaning.

Affixes Clip Cards
In order to use the affixes clip cards, just print off on cardstock, and laminate.
Learners read the word and either clip the prefix {blue cards}
or suffix {yellow cards} in each word. I highly recommend the wooden clothespins because they are a little sturdier than the plastic ones.
Because there are three choices below, these clip cards provide a little more support for struggling readers.
Don’t want to use these as clip cards? Use them as task cards instead! Just laminate them and ask learners to use dry erase marker to circle the answer.
Want self-checking cards? Just add a smiley face or a star on the backside of the cards that lines up with the answers. That way, learners can flip over the clip cards and check their answers.
