Capitalization Clip Cards
When learners are editing or their own writing, it’s often hard for them to do it objectively because they can be too close to their own writing. Giving them some time between drafting and revising/editing can help give them “new eyes” for their work.
Another helpful trick is to have them edit sentences or writing that isn’t their own, out of the context or their own writing. That’s exactly what these capitalization clip cards can help kids do!
What’s Included in this FREE Pack? Clip cards {or task cards} are included for these skills in color AND blackline:
- Capitalizing Beginning of Sentences
- Capitalizing “I”
- Capitalizing Names of People
- Capitalizing Names of Books
- Capitalizing Calendar Names
- Capitalizing Holidays
- Capitalizing Names of Places {stores, restaurants, etc.}
- Capitalizing Places on the Map {rives, oceans, city, state, etc.}
- “Fix It” Recording Pages to re-write the sentence or phrase the correct way. {see below}
Learners read the sentence and decide if the capitalization is correct or incorrect. Your learners won’t know exactly which one to look for, but you could color code the blackline clip cards by type of capitalization by printing them onto different colored card stock.
Learners can use the “Fix It” recording page to write the sentence with the correct capitalization. This makes a great accountability piece if you’re using this as an independent activity.
You could also laminate the cards and use a dry erase marker to circle “correct” or “incorrect.” Learners just correct the sentence right on the card itself. This could still be recorded on the “Fix It” page.
