The Three Sounds of -ed Printable Pack
First things first. Before you jump into the sounds of -ed, your learners need to understand that -ed is a morpheme. That’s just a fancy way of saying that it’s a very small group of letters with a meaning attached to it. Even more simply put, -ed means something happened in the past. Understanding this helps your readers with comprehension and spelling, so don’t skip it!
Okay, now for the freebies! This pack comes with:
1. A one-page visual for remembering the three sounds of -ed.
2. A word sort – Learners cut apart the sort and sort them under “Sounds like t,” “Sounds like d,” and Sounds like id.” The sort comes in two versions: one with the base word underlined and one without the base words underlined. This can help you better differentiate for learners on different levels with this concept.
3. A Color the Sound Page – Learners use three colors {blue, red, & orange} to color the words based on the sound of -ed.
4. Read, Highlight, & Circle – Learners read the sentence, find the word that ends with -ed, highlight it, then circle {or highlight} the sound the -ed makes.
5. Lastly, this pack has an answer key for the sorts, coloring page, and sentence page!
