FREE Rote Counting Cards

These cards are GREAT for on-the-go kind of practice {like in your car or at the doctor’s office}. If you’re a classroom teacher, use them as a quick review during calendar time, math time, or when you have a few minutes in between activities and you want to fill it with some learning.

Why rote counting? Rote counting can help kids with these skills {among others}:

  • counting on and counting back
  • recognizing patterns within the number system
  • addition and subtraction
  • multiplication and division
  • mental math

You’ll find counting on and counting back for SO many numbers, including more conventional skip counting to rote counting in more difficult ways like, “start at 182 and count back by 10’s to 112”. These are great for K-3rd grades.

I recommend that you pick the set you’d like to use, laminate them if you think you’ll use them over and over, and then hole punch and put them on a ring clip.

using a hundreds chart to help with rote counting

If you have a struggling learner, I have also included a 1-200 hundred chart {pg. 31 of download} that she can use as support to help visually see the patterns.

Please note that you can change the numbers on the cards orally, so instead of saying “Count by 5’s from 125 to 170”, you could say “Count by 5’s from 120 to 165.” But if you still don’t see the rote counting skill you want to practice, just type it into the editable page! {The directions to do this are on pp. 29-30 of the download.}
