AT-HOME SPELLING HELP & TIPS
Ugh. Spelling. Really? This has got to be one of the topics that really rocks the boat for many reasons. Spelling is hard for many learners. And in today’s day and age with all the technology we have {ahem…spellcheck}, is spelling really necessary?!?
My answer is a resounding, YES! Spellcheck is honestly only helpful for learners who are already decent spellers. So yes, spelling is really necessary.
But there’s help! Here are some at-home spelling help and tips that will really support you as you work with your spellers.
Support Your Spellers
I have found that spelling goes much better when our learners feel supported. Our learning and spelling folders have been in MANY homes {including ours} for years. These are a great and portable resource for phonics patterns as well as sight words!

Make Spelling FUN!
- Make it BIG. Spell with Oversized Letters Cards.
- Spell with different voices. Use our Sight Word Chants as well as our Animal Sight Word Chants to make spelling multi-sensory and fun!
- Make it Hands-On. Find 50 Hands-On Spelling Activities to help you do this.
- Use Games, like our Interactive Word Bump! Spelling Games – I love that kids on two different levels can still play together with this game. I have game boards for every season, too!
- Keep it NO PREP for you. If you make it too difficult for you to do, often times you’ll skip it {or maybe it’s just me}. I have some FREE, NO PREP Spelling Pages I just created that you can use with ANY spelling words. Woohoo!
