Short Vowel Sounds Clip Cards
How do you know if your child is ready for these? Look at your child’s invented spellings. If she is beginning to include vowels in her spellings, even if the spellings aren’t correct such as BAD for bed or FOG for frog, you know she is ready to hear the middle sound.
To use these short vowel sounds clip cards, first gather some wooden clothespins. Identify the large image on the clip card and stretch out the word, emphasizing the middle short vowel sound like this: s-u-u-u-b. Do this with each of the little images on the clip cards as well. The goal is to locate the image that DOES NOT have the same middle vowel sound as the top image in a similar way as our Beginning Alphabet Sounds Clip Cards and Rhyming Clip Cards.
While my free set is a bit more challenging, your child might like to begin with the FREE short clip cards I created for Free Homeschool Deals. With these, kids are clipping the only smaller image that DOES match the bigger image.
