Vowel Team Clip Cards

By thisreadingmama 6 Comments

My 1st grader is learning all about vowel teams right now. We have our vowel team posters hung up in our schoolroom close to his desk and we’ve been using some of my BOB Books printables from Set 5 here and there, too. This past week, I made him some vowel team clip cards that I’d like to share with you.

The free download can be found at the END of this post. Just click on the teal, oval button!

Just like our all our other clip cards, just print these onto cardstock {makes them less flimsy}, cut them out, & grab some clothesline pins. Because it’s all straight cuts, I often use my paper cutter to make prep time go faster.

The idea is for the child to use the image and word with blanks, such as b _ _ t, to clip the correct vowel team that goes in the blank. I tried to make it challenging, but not too challenging. For example, kids often mix up ee and ea, so I have kept those two patterns separate from one another on these clip cards.

I like that this activity can be done more than once {unlike most worksheets}. They’re also a great to ask kids to do independently if they are ready for the vowel team patterns on the cards.

Add a star or circle on the back of each clip card, so that kids can check their answers. The vowel team clip cards in my bundle pack have the answers included when you print them front and back, like in the example above. Note: The vowel team clip cards in the free download do not have the stars.
