Want a fun way to practice handwriting? Just like my number trace and try handwriting pages, these trace and try handwriting pages for upper and lowercase letters are a great way to support young writers with handwriting practice. {The free download link is located at the end of this post. Click on the oval button.}
Admit it. Traditional handwriting pages can be boring. Most kids are not too motivated by pages and pages of empty lines needing to be filled by writing certain letters over and over again until it feels like their hand will fall off {at least that’s what they’ve told me}.
Of course, we can’t skip handwriting, as it is vitally important to becoming a proficient writer. How frustrating it must be to have a message you want to write, but you can’t even remember how to form your letters.
Trace and Try Handwriting Pages
These trace and try handwriting pages are different than your traditional handwriting pages. How?
- There aren’t tons of lines on the paper, which can lower the anxiety level for the child {and person teaching the child, I might add}.
- They provide support to the young writer as kids trace the letter twice, then try it on their own. This helps students know where to start the letter and the direction of the strokes as they form the rest of the letter.
- Lastly, there’s a phonics picture related to the letter that kids can color if they’d like.
Included in this free pack are a single set for both uppercase and lowercase letters. Each page includes 4 different letters.

Thanks so much for the handwriting tips and b/d reversal hint! I have a third grader still struggling with this!
You’re very welcome! 🙂
I work mostly with K4 & some with K5. I think theses Trace and Try Handwriting Pages are the best I’ve seen!
Having only 4 to a page makes them large enough for the children to see the numbers & arrows that show them how to form the letter!
Thank you so much
Sonya

I am not able to download the free worksheets. It says click here but then gives me the price to add to my cart.
