Disguise a Turkey

While this idea is not original to me {just google the idea and you’ll find TONS of images}, I found some turkey clip art and knew that I couldn’t pass up doing this with my own kids this year. While we camouflaged our turkeys a few years ago, this year, we disguised them!

First, I read aloud, ‘Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving, a book that has the rhyming pattern of the classic ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Hilarious book, by the way!

disguising the turkeys using craft supplies

While the turkeys don’t put on a disguise in the book, we set out to disguise our turkeys. {I just ordered Turkey Trouble, and in this book the turkey DOES try and disguise himself. Can’t wait for it to come!} I pulled out our craft supplies {which I hardly ever do} and they went to town.

I did print the turkeys onto cardstock so they could better withstand the weight of the glue, glitter, googly eyes, etc.

Writing Activity

Once done, I encouraged them to write a few sentences explaining, in the voice of the turkey, why he should not be eaten for Thanksgiving dinner. I attached the writing page to the disguised turkeys.

And yes, she invented some of her spellings, as I was helping multiple children and could not help her spell every word. She did use her word wall folder for some of the words I expect her to spell correctly because we’ve studied them.
