Learners can use these Resurrection Retelling Cards to retell the different parts of Christ’s crucifixion in order from Palm Sunday to the empty tomb.

Resurrection Retelling Cards

Use the picture cards or the sentence cards to challenge learners to order the events from Palm Sunday until the resurrection of Jesus.

Older learners can try to do this from memory or by looking through the Gospels in their Bible. Do this together with younger learners as a review of the timeline. Learners who can read could also simply match the sentence to each picture, then put them all in order.

The timeline is based on the Gospel of Matthew and is as follows:

1. The people shout “Hosanna!” as Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey’s colt. (Matthew 21:1-9)

2. The religious leaders question Jesus many times. (Matthew 22:15-40)

3. Jesus celebrates the Passover meal with His disciples. (Matthew 26:26-30)

4. Jesus prays to God in the Garden of Gethsemane. (Matthew 26:36-46)

5. Judas betrays Jesus with a kiss. (Matthew 26:47-56)

6. Jesus stands before and is questioned by Pontius Pilate. (Matthew 27:1-2, 11-26)

7. Simon is asked to carry Jesus’s cross to Golgotha. (Matthew 27:32-33)

8. Jesus is crucified on the cross between two criminals. (Matthew 27:35-44)

9. The temple veil is torn into, from top to bottom. (Matthew 27:50-51)

10. Soldiers guard the tomb of Jesus. (Matthew 27:62-66)

11. The stone is rolled away. Jesus is alive! (Matthew 28:2-3)*

12. The women find that Jesus is not in the tomb. (Matthew 28:5-8)*

*If learners reverse these two, it works just as well.
