A couple of weeks ago, my 1st and 2nd grader did some work on 2D and 3D shapes. You might remember our shape assessment page. Today, I’m sharing some of the quadrilateral activity pages we did together.

Quadrilateral Activity Pages {FREE!}
When it comes to geometry, there are so many vocabulary words…vertices, angles, parallel, rhombus. Maybe that’s why I love geometry so much!
So, when I asked a simple question about parallelograms to my 2nd grader about 6 weeks ago and realized he didn’t know the answer, I knew it was time. Time to explore quadrilaterals! I searched online to find what I needed and when I didn’t discover it, I created away.
In this activity pack, you’ll find several pages to help kids explore the differences and similarities with:
- squares
- rectangles
- rhombuses
- trapezoids
- parallelograms
Here are a few of the pages from the pack:
This one trick is such a hands-on way to explore parallelograms vs. trapezoids. Learners just need two colored crayons and two pencils {or rulers}. Color the opposite sides two different colors.
Once the opposite lines have been colored, use pencils to help kids visualize how parallel lines will never intersect. Ask, “If the pencils were VERY long, would they ever cross each other?” {No.}
A simple follow-up page I pulled out the next day for independent work was this NO PREP Parallelogram or Trapezoid? Page. I encouraged them to use the crayons and pencils again if they felt they needed it.
This pack also includes some writing activities for learners to compare two shapes. {If you need answers, I’ve provided an answer page in the download.}
One of the last things we did while we studied different kinds quadrilaterals was fill out this chart. They had to draw a picture of the shape and then write about its attributes.
