Today, I’m sharing an interactive Valentine spelling game called Word Bump! {The free download link is at the end of the post}. This is a spelling game that works with ANY spelling list. Both players can share the same Bump! board and play with completely different word lists, making it perfect when you’re teaching children of different word learning levels.
This week, ALuv {currently 2nd grade} and I played using the same spelling list and the Bump! board with three dice, working on quick addition skills to 18. There are many things I like about this game. One being that it is highly adaptable. It works well in the classroom as a literacy center to practice sight words or phonics patterns. It also works well in a tutoring or homeschool setting. It’s multi-leveled in several different ways. It can be played for a short time or for a long time.
This time, we played until the first person got through the 12 words on the list first. When the first person wrote his 12 words first, whoever had the most words written {with their color marker} was declared the winner. As you can see from the picture, my son had erased all but two of my words and was, of course, the winner of the game. {It took us about 10 minutes to play doing it this way.}
