One of my students’ favorite activities when I used to be a classroom teacher was Write the Room. With sick kiddos at home, I created a Write the Room Rhyming Words Activity for my preschooler just this week. She loved it!
{Be sure to download BOTH Write the Room activity packs. I created one more after readers and my daughter requested it!}

Write the Room Rhyming Words
Because this activity could be used with preschoolers or Kindergartners, I have two levels. In the first level, learners trace the words. In the second one, learners copy and write the word themselves.
I wanted my preschooler to trace the words instead of write them herself {because I knew this might cause frustration}, so she used the tracing page.
Before the activity began, I cut apart and “hid” the matching rhyming words all over the downstairs of the house. If using this in a classroom setting, all words are “hidden” in the classroom.
I printed off her write the room rhyming words recording page and clipped it onto a clipboard. Together, we identified the pictures and talked about words that could rhyme with each picture.
I set her free to search for the word cards around the house. I helped and guided as needed. When she found a word card, she traced the word on her recording sheet that rhymed. {Remember, there’s also a level 2 in which learners have to write the rhyming word on their own.}
When she was finished, she colored in the check at the top right.

Thank you! 😄My 4 yr old son LOVED this activity!!! His rhyming abilities are ahead of his writing skills so I had him find the words around the house and tape them over the words they rhyme with on the blank sheet. Then I had him trace the words on the tracing sheet to check his work. It worked GREAT. Now he wants more. Do you have any more?
I just added another set to the post! My daughter also requested more. 🙂
Thank you. I was trying to figure out a good idea of how to use this with my 5 year old whose reading, spelling, and rhyming abilities are way above his writing ability.
Awesome. Glad you can use it!
Please tell how to get the fold and read rhyming books. I tried clicking on it and goes to write the room.
That’s so strange! The link to the fold & read books is –> https://thisreadingmama.com/fold-read-animal-rhyming-books/ and the link to download them is on the very bottom of that post. Click on the teal download button.
Thank you, what a fantastic resource!!!
Thanks!
You are such a blessing to my family. My son has learned so much this year in Kindergarten thanks to the many wonderful things you share. My son loves all the games and your fun learning style. Thank you for making learning fun!
You’re welcome!
These are AWESOME!! My kidergarten kiddos have rhyming with short a and i but are struggling to rhyme with other vowel sounds. Thanks so much!
You’re welcome! 🙂
Becky,
As a newer kindergarten teacher I have been coming to your site for a couple of years now. I can not express how much I appreciate you sharing your hard work for free!! You are a blessing to so many!! 🙂
Yay! I’m so glad you can use the things I share here. 🙂
These were a hit with my special needs son. Thank you! 🙂
Do you any other write the room for Rhyming? I love it …. My ELL students really enjoy because they can relate the word to the picture.
I don’t at this point. Did you download both of them from the post?
Love this! Would you also consider making a CVC, bossy e edition using trace and write options? An editable version would be great!
I will add these suggestions to my list of things to create. Thank you for the suggestions!
