Welded Sounds Phonics Cards
What exactly are welded sounds? Sometimes called glued sounds, welded sounds are groups of letters that are easier to learn as a chunk than to separate into individual sounds.
For example, we don’t individually pronounce all the letters of skunk (s-k-u-n-k). The n and k just don’t separate into individual sounds. The a in fan or can is colored a little bit by the nasal n, so learning it as f-an is often easier than f-a-n .
In this free pack are these 11 welded sounds cards: am, an, all, ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, and unk.
Laminate and hang them on your wall near a writing center. Or you can hole punch them in the corner and connect them with a clip ring to make a flip book.
If you use welded sounds with your learners, you may also like our:
Welded Sounds Spelling Mats – With two levels of learning, your learners will spell, then write words with the ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, and unk chunks.
