Beforehand, make sure your learners understand the difference between facts and opinions. Don’t skip this step because it is the foundation for understanding how to sort the feathers!
Facts are statements that can be researched and found to be true {or false}. Facts are objective and are always true for all people. For example, “Turkeys can make multiple sounds” is a fact.
Opinions are subjective and can vary from person to person. They are usually based on preferences or feelings. For example, “The ‘gobble’ sound of a turkey is annoying” is an opinion.
Turkey Fact and Opinion Sort
Use this free resource with your learner(s) to practice recognizing facts vs. opinions. Nine facts are included, and nine opinions are included in this pack.
To prep this activity, you’ll need to cut out the two turkey bodies and various feathers containing facts and opinions about turkeys.
- Once they are all are cut out, place the turkey bodies on the work space like a tabletop or floor.
- Mix up the turkey feather letters and ask your learners to sort them on the turkey bodies as either fact or opinion.
