Teaching kids how to write stories and non-fiction texts is very important. For some kids, especially reluctant learners, writing is one of the last things they want to do. Writing letters can actually motivate them like no other because of the interest level involved.
And it can be FUN to learn how to write a letter as well with this free printable! The free download link is at the end of this post. Click on the teal, oval button.

Teaching Kids How to Write a Letter
Both boys have had birthdays recently and we’ve been working on writing some thank you letters during some of our writing time. While my 3rd grader already has letter writing under his belt (mostly), I pulled out a printable I used as a classroom teacher and NJoy {Kindergarten} and I worked on how to write a letter together.
We talked about the parts of a friendly letter together, as he glued on the labels. Doing the cutting and gluing of labels kept him actively listening and participating in the lesson, something that he struggles with at times.
This teddy bear graphic organizer stays in a spot where my boys can see it to help them format their letters each time they need to write one. My oldest son keeps his in his writer’s notebook.
