How Many More and Less Task Cards

These simple cards are a great way to help kids interact with and visually see the concept of how many more and how many less.  If you’ve taught young children long enough, you know that this can be a tough and abstract math concept.

But it’s task cards to the rescue! {Before using the task cards, I highly recommend laminating them so you can re-use them.}

Here’s how:

roll a die - first step of how many more and less task cards

Roll a die. Draw the same number of dots that are on the die on the blank stack of cubes, one dot per cube. {I love that the same task card can be used multiple times, as numbers 1-6 could be rolled, providing a different problem each time! This is why I recommend laminating them first.}

draw lines between stacks to visually see how many more or how many less

Before answering the question, it may help learners to draw connecting lines between “matching” dots from one stack to the other.

counting how many "extra" dots on a how many more task card

They can then count the “extra” dots to find out how many more {or less}.

writing the answer to how many more on the task card

Learners write their answer in the box on the card.
