I don’t know about your house, but my kids are wild about dice. Word Bump! has been such a hit over the last year. I seems that if I incorporate a die/dice into a learning objective in any subject area, it becomes a game to them. That’s one reason I created this FREE pack of Christmas math games with dice this year. {FREE download at the end of this post.}

Christmas Math Games with Dice
In this FREE pack, you’ll find 6 math games that appeal to Preschool, K-3rd grade, and maybe even beyond 3rd grade for some children. Some of the math games are adaptable to meet your students’ needs, with suggestions in the download for how to do this. While you won’t find Santa, you’ll find Christmas trees, gingerbread men, and a couple of reindeer.
Here are just a few examples of the math games included in the 24-page pack:
Roll and Cover: Roll the die, find the number and cover it. We like to use our Do-a-Dot paint, but you could use transparent counters or pennies. These math games are just like the ones you’ll find in Reading the Alphabet or in all my Pre-K/K Packs. In this pack, I have a Christmas Tree pattern and Gingerbread Pattern for 1 die AND 2 dice.
This was a new favorite math game this last week for my 3rd grader. Cover your board first with transparent counters (we used unifix cubes the first time we played the game, but I like the transparent counters because you can see through them to the number.) Roll the two dice and either add, subtract, multiply or divide to uncover one of the markers from your game board. If you have a younger learner, kids can just add or subtract to remove their counter. In the pack are even more variations of this game.
Another a fun twist on an old game: Memory Match. While you can TOTALLY play it like the classic game, we added a die to the fun. On your turn, you roll the die and flip over the number indicated. Yes, the game goes a little faster, but I’ve included Christmas tree clip art that is very similar in nature, so that it is actually more challenging than you’d think…at least for my brain! 🙂
One more math game from the pack is this Up on the Housetop Fact Family Game, which is a take off on my Triangle Fact Family from 2.5 years ago. In the pack are game boards for addition/subtraction AND early multiplication/division, helping kids see the relationship that those operations share. See the game boards below:
