Here is a NEW snow-themed activity that we did this week. It’s called Short Vowel Build-a-Snowman and it uses pictures and works on reviewing short vowel sounds in words. The pictures included are CVC words and words that are a little more complicated with blends and digraphs, like flag or fish.
The free download link can be found at the end of this post.

These little short vowel snowmen were a great way to work on phonemic isolation, a fancy way of saying the ability to isolate a sound in a word. In these pictures, we want kids to isolate the vowel sound and be able to identify what it is.
In the pack, you’ll find snowman “parts” with images and hats with the short vowels. The child builds the snowman by using just the same short vowel sound in each image and then puts the short vowel hat on the top.
There’s even a blank snowman mat you can use to build your snowmen. The pack contains 2 complete short vowel snowmen for each vowel and some blank snowmen parts just in case you’d like to try to make your own. 🙂

I cannot download the build-a-snowman. I have tried several ways and couldn’t. Is there something I am not doing right?
