Check out these FREE Alphabet Playdough Mats that you can use with your little ones!
Playdough is a favorite at our house. There’s hardly a day that goes by that I don’t hear, “Mommy, can we play with the playdough?”
I also have little ones who love their alphabet (and two who still need to work on it a bit). So, I combined letter learning and playdough and created some Alphabet Playdough Mats.
*The free download at the END of this post.
A few of them may look familiar, as I used a couple of mat ideas from our FREE Winter, Spring, and Summer Playdough Mats!

Open-Ended Alphabet Playdough Mats
The idea is that you take the open-ended mat, slip it into a plastic sleeve protector {or laminate for durability} add a little playdough, while sneaking in some fine motor fun, and create a picture with it like you see in the example above. The mats are all open-ended so kids can get as creative as they’d like. You can use store-bought dough {like we used} or make your own.
This pack is perfect for kids who need some alphabet review or you can take it one at a time, printing off just the letter(s) you want. {And just for the record, ALL my kids love these mats; they are ages 2, 4, 5.5 and almost 9.} If you are a classroom teacher, this would make a GREAT fine motor/literacy center, too!

Those are great mats – we’re past the alphabet play stage…but some of those still look like fun!
My boys are, too, but they begged to do them. I also had a little fun. 😉
Becky, these are great!!!!
Thanks, Carisa. 🙂
I love these Becky! Can’t wait to use them with my boys!
Awesome! We have already enjoyed them. 🙂
They look so fun! I am sure Aarya will enjoy!
I’m glad you have one that will enjoy them, too!
Those are fantastic!
Thank you, Karen. 🙂

Oh, I’m so glad you can use them with your daughter! 🙂
super cute!! thank you!
Thank you. 🙂
unable to download these! 🙁 Links sending me to ebay! and pdf-doc converter links. ??
Nevermind! I finally got it. I’m not sure what was happening there. ?? Thank you for the free resource!
These are so fun! Thank you for a great resource! : )
You’re very welcome. 🙂
I love the idea too! Great mats! Does the playdoh stick to the mats? Mine kept falling off so my boy lost interest soon cos he couldn’t show his picture off. Is it just the play doh we’re using? Does it usually stay on the mat without slipping off?
We don’t usually move the mats beyond the table. We haven’t had a problem with it slipping off if we put them in a plastic sleeve protector or laminate them first. Maybe you could snap photos of his creations and he can show those off.
Please revise your blog post. I understand that many teachers would rather charge their colleagues money rather than honor the tradition freely sharing materials for the higher aim of benefiting all children… but it’s especially a bummer to read a great post with the expectation of free materials, and then get slapped with a $10 price tag once you’ve clicked on the link.
I think you’re referring to the Learning the Alphabet link that’s mentioned in the post, but the Alphabet Mats are still free. The download link can be found towards the end of the post where it says, “>>Download this Alphabet Play Mat Pack by clicking HERE.<<"
It’s always good to scroll to the end of the post to find the download link! And a note – if you browse this blog, you’ll find HUNDREDS of high quality free printables. This Reading Mama is one of the most generous bloggers around when it comes to “freely sharing materials.”
Hi, I can’t download these? The PDF doesn’t load? 🙁
Yes, it does. Have you tried any of these tips? -> https://thisreadingmama.com/downloading-printing-help/
I have recently discovered your blog. My students ADORE these mats. I teach ages 2-6. They all love being creative with your mats and playdough! Thank you so much for providing this!! 🙂
I’m blessed to hear you can use them.
