Why is Writing SO Hard?

It’s no secret that writing is the most difficult of all the language skills. It requires MANY skills to come together for learners to create work that is meaningful and organized. Learners not only need to come up with ideas, but also organize them in a way that makes sense, write down the words (which includes handwriting and spelling skills), and then revise and edit the ideas as they make their writing the best it can be for a reader.

As if that doesn’t sound complicated enough, it is further complicated if a learner is struggling with the physical aspects of handwriting or is a struggling reader.

All of this complexity just makes me want to take a nap-ha! Lucky for you, I decided to create a couple of writing folders instead of napping.

A Look Inside the Writing Folders

Two levels of printables have been included {in color and in blackline}. There are printables for K-2 writers and printables for grades 3-5 writers. It’s up to you to mix and match them any way you’d like.

While there are MANY different ways that you can organize the printables to create folders, here’s a photo gallery to show how we organized ours. If you have a child that struggles with spelling, feel free to create a separate spelling folder OR add any of the spelling freebies from our Kindergarten Spelling Folder, Spelling Folder for 1st and 2nd grades, and our Elementary Spelling Folder.

I only used one colored folder for our K-2 Writing Folders, but you can use two folders by overlapping them and stapling them together with a long-arm stapler. This is what I did for our 3-5 Writing Folder.

Full directions for overlapping folders can be found in our Spelling Folder post.
