Roll a Turkey Math Facts Dice Game
This Thanksgiving-themed math facts game comes in TWO DIFFERENT LEVELS: 1- using addition and subtraction only and 2- using addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division with only two dice.
This game can be played with 2-4 players. My 1st grader and 2nd grader played level 2 together in lieu of their math fact practice page.
In order to get in the game, a player must roll a double {such as 5-5=0 or 2-2=0} and earn the turkey’s body. You can play it so that each player has to roll their own double to get the zero or so that everyone gets the turkey’s body when just one player gets the double.
We played level 2, so when we rolled the dice, we either added, subtracted, multiplied, or divided the two numbers. {My 1st grader needed some visuals and help with the multiplication and division, but it was a great intro for her!} So, 3 and 6 could equal 9, 3, 2, or 18, depending on what you do with the numbers.
Once they got an answer, they looked on the Roll a Turkey chart to figure out what piece they needed to complete a turkey.
If they rolled a number for a turkey part they already had, they had to try and use the numbers in a different way. If all the answers they could get only gave them turkey parts they already had, they lost a turn.
When they got an answer/part they needed, they wrote the number sentence on their recording sheet. {This part is optional, but I like how it added an extra step…and neither one complained a lick about writing them down.}
The first person to complete a turkey, won!
I like that the game is a good mix of chance and skill, making it possible for my 1st grader to play with her older brother. I also like that it gets kids reviewing their math facts without a worksheet or flash cards. 🙂

I just love your colorful math ideas, as someone who works with 5 grade levels on math, these are wonderful for multi purposes and concepts. Thanks
Hi!
I love your site and use a lot of the things you send out and from your TPT store. I was wondering if you plan on offering any items geared toward older grades? 3rd or 4th perhaps? Can you point me to another blog similar to yours for more 3rd grade activites?
Great question! Right now, the kids I teach at home are in preschool, 1st grade and 2nd grade so most of my activities are created with them in mind. Maybe in another year or so I’ll begin moving “up.” I can’t think of any blogs off-hand. But if I do, I’ll comment back here again.
Thank you for this! Looks so much fun. Can’t wait to do level 1 with 2 of my kids. There is one tiny typo in the download. You just have level 1 listed twice instead of one of the titles saying level 2. Not a big deal at all, just thought I would let you know!
Oops! It’s fixed now. 🙂
I had to come back and tell you I played this today with my 1st grader and she LOVED it! I mean she really loved it. She thought I was the coolest mom ever! Thank you!
I’m so glad you got to be the coolest mom ever! 🙂 I love it when kids WANT to learn.
How very generous of you to share this game with all of us. I think my students will LOVE it! Thank you so much!!!!
I enjoy sharing! I hope your students do love it! 🙂
