Reading the Alphabet Updated and Expanded - This Reading Mama

I’m so thrilled to share that Reading the Alphabet has been updated and expanded!

$35.00Add to cart

What is Reading the Alphabet? It’s a hands-on way to get your child reading. Does your child know most of her letters and letter sounds? Maybe she’s too young for Kindergarten curriculum just yet. Does your child have special needs and a reading curriculum that moves at a deeper and slower pace would fit him/her? Reading the Alphabet is built on my experience with teaching emergent and struggling readers as well as my studies of what young readers need to be successful readers.

Reading the Alphabet Targets these Reading Skills:

  • recognizing and making rhymes
  • counting and blending syllables
  • phonics and reinforcing letter sounds, applied to reading
  • beginning sight words (26 beginning sight words are introduced, one with each letter)
  • print awareness
  • matching voice to print
  • reading and sounding out early CVC words such as mat, hot, or bug
  • fine motor skills, such as lacing, tracing, and cutting
  • beginning handwriting for upper and lower case letters

Reading the Alphabet also contains math activities that correlate with each letter of the alphabet, including

  • one-to-one correspondence
  • number recognition 1-20
  • making patterns
  • beginning addition

Don’t worry. The free version of Reading the Alphabet isn’t going anywhere. But in this bundled pack, you’ll find these extra goodies:

Letter M 1pg reader example from Reading the Alphabet Bundle Pack

1-page readers

Letter T lacing cards from Reading the Alphabet Bundle Pack

lacing cards

Beginning Handwriting and Tracing Pages from Reading the Alphabet Bundle Pack

handwriting pages (that reinforce letter sounds, too!)

sight word songs from Reading the Alphabet Bundle Pack

a DIFFERENT sight word song for each word!

Do a Dot Number Pages for 1 Die example from Reading the Alphabet Bundle Pack

extra dice games for beginning learners

printable sight word cards from Reading the Alphabet Bundle Pack

printable sight word cards

AND MUCH MORE!

What age is this recommended for? My daughter is five and this might be a bit trivial.

I don’t have an age recommendation. Rather, I look at what the child understands about how words work. I have more description about the curriculum here–> https://thisreadingmama.com/free-reading-curriculum/reading-the-alphabet-prek-curriculum/. It may help to read that. If your daughter is past these skills, then it would be too easy for her. 🙂

My twins are 2 1/2, what else is recommended other than reading to them? I have purchased alphabet posters (I have one in the living room and the other in their bedroom),..Will this book be helpful for their age even?

I know I am missing something but on several of you offers it says freebie or free yet when I try to download it, it says it costs $3.99 or the $10 bundle. I do plan on purchasing the bundle closer to the end of August but I wanted to try some out first. I am sorry I am trying to navigate your website and got excited so I know I am missing something.

Each week, there are more like lesson outlines for each week {similar to the free version}. The more detailed descriptions of each activity are found in the first part of the download. Each week features those activities in the lesson outlines.

I have the same question as many people about the expanded version. I bought the $10 bundle last year and used it with my son, and it was great, but now I am using it with my daughter and want to figure out how I can get the new expanded stuff, or if I just need to buy the whole thing from scratch again. I love it by the way, so do my children, and it has worked great for them!

I just purchased the updated Reading the Alphabet curriculum, but where do you download it? I clicked just about all the “download here” buttons, but all that comes up are zip files, pdf file converters, advertising, how do I get the file? I am not too good at this and my daughter usually helps me, but she’s not here 🙁

Where do you see $20? When I FIRST posted RTA, it was $20 for maybe 2 hours before I realized I should have priced it at $10 and I thought I fixed it.

Is there a reason you are ignoring all the questions from people that purchased the original curriculum? I see you answer the other questions fairly quickly. How many changes are there from the original and is it possible to get just those at a discount? I enjoyed using your Phonics by the Book with my older son and am looking forward to using this with my younger son soon. I would love the updated version, but can’t really pay the entire cost again. Thanks so much.

    Hi Becky!
I purchased the “Reading the Alphabet” Bundle during the 4th of July weekend (bad decision on my part). My printer “shut down”, then my husband fixed it, then it ran out of colored ink, and then it ran out of black ink. In other words, I wasn’t able to complete the entire download. A family member has had medical issues with hospitalization, thus the lateness in my comment to you. Would you extend the “download” for me or should I repurchase the Bundle? I’m a very satisfied customer and wouldn’t mind repurchasing, if necessary.
Your programs and printables are AWESOME!!! My GD is loving your program and having fun with it while learning to read. (Her parents are divorcing and it has given us some really good quality time together!)
Also, is there a link telling us how you organized all of the printables in the pack? I need to save these to use with my GS in the future. Did you put all of the songs together in a group or file them with each unit?
    Thank you for your time.
P.S. You, “The Measured Mom”, and 1+1+1=1 are my favorite websites and I”m enjoying the quick games that both you and “TMM” are creating!

Hi! First I want to say thank you for all the wonderful work you do and amazing resources you have on this website. It has been such a blessing for my two boys and I!! I purchased this pack on Nov. 30 with your Black Friday coupon. I purchased it from my iPad however didn’t want to download it until I was home and able to save it to my desktop. I tried to do that tonight but it said that the download had expired. I didn’t know there was a time frame the files were available for. How can this be resolved? I would like to get the files I paid for. Thank you so much!!

    Hello,
I purchased the reading packet about a month ago. I didn’t not realize I had to download all the sections at the same time. I only downloaded section 1 last month, I was just trying to download the other sections but I keep getting a “download session expired” message… Do I have to purchase again to get the other sections now?
    Thanks ,
