Post-A-Word: A Sight Word Scavenger Hunt

I don’t know about your kiddos, but mine simply LOVE to play with Post-It Notes. Maybe it’s because they’re “off limits” to them most of the time. I can’t afford to buy them as play toys…they go through them WAY too fast!

But just the other day, I integrated Post-It Notes into NJoy’s schoolwork and created a sight word scavenger hunt for him.  And boy, he really *stuck* with the game!

Post A Word-Sight Word Scavenger Hunt

To prepare, I wrote out all the letters on separate Post-It Notes for his most recent sight words from Reading the Alphabet (we’re currently working through Lesson 3) which are a, the, and see.  So, I wrote seven letters in all: a, t, h, e, s, e, & e.

I also prepped the dry erase board in the schoolroom by writing the sight words, with boxes for each letter of the word beside each word (see last picture of post).

I hid the letters all around the schoolroom.

His job was to find each letter and stick it inside each square beside each word on the dry erase board (see picture above).  When he filled in the word, we spelled and read each word together, celebrating his success.

I seriously thought this game would last maybe 2 rounds, because NJoy is rather active and rarely sticks with activities too long.  The boy played the game over and over (and over). ALuv actually put down the iPad to see what all the fuss was about, kicked me out of the schoolroom, and continued the game with NJoy. Crazy!
