This list of phonics books can help your learners apply their phonics skills and build fluency IN THE CONTEXT of real reading. Yes, please!
Learners, especially struggling readers, need to practice phonics OUT of context. {That’s what all our phonics printables can help you do.}
But we always want to bring this instruction back to reading IN CONTEXT. This helps learners see that their phonics knowledge can be applied to something meaningful…reading.

Just Phonics Books. What about Comprehension?
Before I jump in too far, I want to be clear and say that many of these readers are just that. Phonics books. They are probably not a springboard for meaningful and deep conversations and comprehension activities. And that’s okay. The main purpose of phonics readers is to practice applying phonics skills in the context of reading.
The best way to build comprehension with learners who aren’t quite ready to read harder book is to read aloud rich texts that provide reasons to predict, visualize, and those other important reading comprehension skills.
I have lots of books for modeling comprehension strategies {and that lead to great discussions} as well as printable comprehension book lists if you’re looking to build this skill.
