I am honored to be joining many other bloggers this month in our Virtual Book Club for Kids.  Our author this month was Julia Donaldson, a new author to me.  I was amazed at her list of books.  Many drew my eye, but Paper Dolls was one that I knew all my kiddos could relate to in some way.

Paper Dolls is a cute story about a very creative little girl who makes some paper dolls with her mom.  She names these dolls and plays with them, attempting to keep them from harm.  But alas, they meet a pair of scissors from a little boy.  It doesn’t end on this sad note, but shows how she grows up and then helps her own little girl make paper dolls.

Even though my two oldest are boys {ages 7.5 and 4}, I knew they would both enjoy this book.  Of course, my little girl {age 2.5}  did! My oldest LOVES to fold paper and make paper airplanes, my middle loves to cut and color, and my little girl…well…

she just LOVES to cut {she reminded me of the little boy in the book}.  So much so, that we had to make our crafts while she was sleeping!

After we read the book, I showed both boys how to fold the paper

Folding Paper for Paper Dolls

1. Fold paper in half {hot dog style}
2. Fold one portion of the paper back in half {back towards the original fold}
3. Do the same to the other side
4. When you’re finished, your paper should take on an accordion shape

The boys very much enjoyed making “paper dolls”.  Although ALuv did begin by making them, they both got creative and made MANY things:

hearts

DSCI3869

crosses

and even Angry Birds!
