Just this past week, ALuv {2nd grade} and I played Spring Word Bump! as a phonics game.
This time, instead of using a list of sight words, like we did for our Shamrock Word Bump!, we reviewed some “bossy r” words.
We also shared the same list of words, although Word Bump! is set up so that both players can have their own separate list of words.
(I created my list from the appendix of Words Their Way. The spelling lists in the back of this book are phenomenal for creating your own spelling lists and games, based on phonics patterns. They also have a list of sight words in the back, too.)
And instead of playing with NJoy {5 years} this time, he played with me. This is one of the things that makes Word Bump! so great…it’s highly adaptable.
I’m not sure we’ve played it the same way any time that we’ve done it so far! Complete directions on how to play Word Bump! are on the free download (download link is at the end of this post).
If you’re looking for more hands-on spelling games like this, you’ll find loads of ideas in my ebook, Teaching Kids to Spell: A Developmental Approach to Spelling. You can purchase a copy for $3.99.
