Lately, NJoy {6 years old/Kindergarten} has been working on telling time. We had already worked on telling time by the hour, but it was time to work on more. Since my kids are all big playdough fans, I thought that Clock Playdough Mats would make the learning more fun!

So, I created a pack of clock playdough mats {from colored mats to black and white mats} to have some open-ended play and learning about time. I found that NJoy liked the idea of picking the color of his clock. Just one way to provide choice. Or you can print off the black and white page and ask kids to color around their clocks to make them theirs.
Prepping the Clock Playdough Mats
- Print the playdough mats onto cardstock
- Slip into a plastic sleeve protector
- Roll out your clock “hands” by making snakes with the playdough (one short hand and one long hand)
- Gather a dry erase marker and eraser
Telling Time with Clock Playdough Mats
These mats can be used any way you’d like. Kids can use them for hour, half hour, quarters, or individual minutes of the hour. You can set the hands and have the child write the digital time for beginners. You can also write the digital time and ask the child to place the hands on the clock. Or you can make it even more difficult. Here are a few shots of NJoy using our Clock Playdough Mats. {Note: we spent 2-3 days with this mat.}
telling time by the hour
telling time by half hour
telling time, using quarters of the hour
