Digraph Mnemonics Pages
What is a mnemonic? A mnemonic is a symbol, idea, or saying that helps us remember something better.
For example, when I was learning the state capitals, my mom taught me lots of helpful mnemonics such as, “Columbus took a bus to Ohio” because Columbus is the capital of Ohio. {Yes, I remember that from over 30 years ago!}
As you can see, mnemonics can be extremely helpful, especially with confusing concepts like those h-digraphs.
So I developed some helpful digraph mnemonics for:
TH – A picture of a tongue sticking out; I always tell my learners, “This is the only time it’s okay to stick your tongue out.”
SH – “Shhh! Hush!”
CH – A train says “ch-ch-ch-ch”
WH – Whisper, whisper, whisper – all said in a whispering voice, of course.
Learners can use theĀ blank digraph mnemonics page to fill in the missing digraphs as you talk about them. {The color digraph cards in the picture above come from our No Prep Digraphs Pages Pack.} Then they can use this page as a reference during their spelling or writing time.
