Recently, Happy Hooligans had the fabulous idea to make crayon resist thank you cards. This got my wheels turning into high gear. My kids LOVE to use our water color paint. We paint at least twice a week. So why not hide some sight words ahead of time and do some crayon resist sight words?
Ahead of time, I wrote eight sight words with white crayon onto white card stock for ALuv (2nd grade) and NJoy (5 years old). My 2nd grader’s words came from the words he was studying that week. My 5 year old’s words came from a mixture of sight words he learned last year with Reading the Alphabet and new words he’s learned from other places, such as Set 1 BOB Books.
Their job was to paint over the page and find the words.
Then I asked them to write the words down onto paper. Why write them? Writing words helps kids to slow down and focus on every.single.letter. Not just the first one or last one, but each letter (and the patterns within the word). You can download the template you see pictured above HERE for free!
I couldn’t leave MBug out (3.5 years old). Painting is probably tied with playdough time as her all-time favorite activity. I hid letters on her paper for her to find.

does it have to be card stock or could you use regular paper?
You sure could. I only use card stock because it keeps the watercolor paint from bleeding through or tearing the paper.
I love simple low maintenance ideas! Thank you for sharing. I know my daughter will love this.
