2. How Many Snowballs? Matching – Learners count the snowballs and match the card with the correct number.
3. Rhyming Words – Match the winter-themed rhyming words with each other. For example, snow-bow, bat-hat, plate-skate. As learners match these, encourage them to say the words OUT LOUD. This helps them to HEAR the rhymes. {A picture key is included if you’re not sure what the pictures represent.}

5. Beginning Sounds Matching – Match the two mittens that have pictures with the same beginning sound. {A picture key is included if you’re not sure what the pictures represent.} This is a great phonemic awareness activity!
For learners who are ready, you can even mix and match the previous letter mittens with the beginning sounds matching to match the actual letters to the pictures. For example, a would match with apple.
Adding the letters into the mix combines phonics with phonemic awareness to help learners with the alphabetic principle.
