ED Word Family Reader & Activities
Below, I’m sharing some of the printable activities from our ED word family lesson {lesson 17} of Learn to Read Unit 5. Some are included in the freebie pack, while others can only be found in the bundle pack.
One of the freebies is the ED word family reader featuring the two new sight words: all & get. Be sure to open the document with the newest version of Adobe Reader and print front to back {short ways}. Staple together with a long-armed stapler and you have book for your learners! You can find the black/white version of this book in the bundle pack.
Another freebie are the ED word family puzzles. These are great for helping kids blend sounds to make CVC words. And, of course, the completed picture provides extra support.
I love Roll, Read, & Find. It’s great for fluency practice and sneaks in some handwriting, too!
A no prep way to practice the new sight words is to this Rainbow Roll & Write page. Of course, we also do some sight word chants each week! {This is another freebie from lesson 17.}
Another way we practiced sight words from this lesson {and some review words} was with our Caterpillar Sight Words, which I borrowed from the amazing book, 100 Fun & Easy Learning Games.
One of the things that’s so great about this curriculum are the different activities you’ll find for word families and sight words. You’re sure to find something that your learner will like within the activities. My daughter loves the stamp & spell. I love that it’s no prep! This week, we stamped the words. Sometimes, she likes to use stickers to spell the words first.
She also asks each week for the Roll & Race sight words activity. It sneaks in math and lots of handwriting practice, which makes me smile!
The sight word playdough mats can be used with a plastic sheet protector {to make it reusable} or without. When we use our protector, she uses playdough, letter tiles, and dry erase marker to spell the sight words. Without the protector, learners can color, stamp, and write the word.
