We took a break from our usual math routine to play this Valentine Math Facts Game together!
Instead of playing it like our 12 Squares game, we mixed it up a little and the kids really enjoyed that. Today, I’m sharing the freebie and how we played it this time.

Valentine Math Facts Game
My first grader and second grader played together. And while their math skills are very different, it still worked {bonus} for them to play together! I did provide some extra support for my 1st grader, especially since we played using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
There are LOTS of ways this game can be played. You can find all the suggestions on page 3 of the download.
Each of my kiddos used one side of the 1-12 heart game board and a recording sheet, printed on the front and back.
We played the uncover the your board to win version. So first, they covered each space on their side of the board with a”jewel” heart.
They rolled the two dice to see who would go first {highest sum wins}.
On a player’s turn, he rolls the dice and adds, subtracts, multiplies, or divides the number. This time, we mixed it up a bit and played it so that you could uncover as many numbers as you had answers. As an example, on my son’s turn, he rolled a 6 and 2. He was able to uncover 12, 8, 4, and 3 from his board on his one turn.
We added yet another FUN TWIST! If you roll a double at any time, you first figure out your number sentences and uncover all the numbers on your board that you can. THEN, you can cover up ANY one space on your opponent’s board.
This made the game stretch longer and added a “luck” component to level out the competition a little. It also allowed my kiddos to re-use numbers they’d previously used because their space was covered up again. {Extra practice = Bonus!}
The first person to clear their board was deemed the winner.
