The Months of the Year {After School Link Up}

The Months of the Year-001

Have you ever noticed holes in your child’s learning?  Boy, I did just recently with my 1st grader!  We had moved on to 2nd grade math and as I was working with him on some problem solving with the months of the year, I realized he didn’t quite know them all in order!  Wow, how did I miss that one?  After reviewing our months of the year through song and a few activities, he had them.

One of his favorite months of the year activities was this one:

DSCI3665

I wrote down several important dates to our family {birthdays} in abbreviated form on individual index cards.

DSCI3661

He had to figure out the dates {that 3-16 equaled March 16th}, and record the important dates on our family’s calendar.  Now, thanks to my son, we have all the birthdays recorded in our calendar for 2013 {a time-saver for me}.

Last week, I enjoyed reading many of the posts linked up for the After School Linky Party!  I was particularly drawn to three posts because they each featured learning in a very playful way.

1. Skip Counting by Five with Gross Motor Fun by Train Up a Child

2. Quilt Square Fractions by Relentlessly Fun, Deceptively Educational
