Ten Frame Clip Cards

An important skill for younger learners is understanding and recognizing how to make numbers up to ten. This simple skill helps learners develop number sense and gets them ready to do harder math problems in the future.

The beauty with these free ten frame clip cards is that they not only help learners develop number sense, they give learners practice with writing numbers 0-20 and building fine motor muscles as they clip the correct answer on the card.

To get these cards ready, I recommend that you laminate them first. If you have multiple learners who are using them or if you want a single learner to use them over and over again, laminating them is the way to go. {Quick tip: Laminate BEFORE you cut them out, so you don’t have to cut them out twice.}

If laminated, learners can use a dry erase marker to trace the number. If you chose not to laminate, learners can trace the numbers with a pencil or crayon.

Ten Frame Clip Cards - trace then numbers then clip the cards

You’ll also need clothespins or pegs to clip the ten frame that shows the number learners just traced.

The goal here is automaticity. You want your learners to quickly be able to recognize the ten frame that matches the number quickly. Learners who are just starting out {preschool and K} will probably count the dots on each ten frame first, and that’s okay as well. You can build up to recognizing them automatically.
