Schwa Word Lists for 2-Syllable Words
Schwa is the most common vowel SOUND in the English language. The crazy thing about schwa is that it can be spelled using all vowels and with several vowel combinations. For example, the bold vowel(s) in all of these words represent schwa: away, item, pencil, blossom, album, vinyl, famous.
Because schwa has so many different ways to represent it in its spellings and because is such a quick and hard-to-decipher sound, we might be tempted to think schwa just can’t be taught.
But, I do have good news ~ there are some predictable spelling patterns we can teach our learners to help them identify schwa in words! Woohoo! That’s where my video teaching and this free schwa word list comes into play.
