Regions and States of the USA Printable Pages

By thisreadingmama 3 Comments

This year, my 5th grader is learning about the Regions & States of the USA. I created some simple printable pages for her to use this year as she explores them, and I thought I’d share them with you. 🙂

Regions & States of the USA Printable Pages

These printable pages are simple and to the point. I did not create pages that ask her to memorize all the state birds, flowers, trees, insects, etc.*

The main things I want her to know about each state are:

  • Where each state is located {the region and exact location on a map}
  • The capital of each state
  • The abbreviation of each state
  • Any distinguishing land features, places, or people from each state

That’s what these pages are for!

*I did, however, created a “My State” Page that can be found at the end of the file if you want your learner to explore more about their own state.

There are pages for 5 US regions {Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, & Western} plus a single page for all 50 states. Here’s a little peek at the pages you can print for your learners. You’ll find:

Regions and States of the USA cover for 3-ring binder

1. a cover page that you can slip in the front of a 3-ring binder {a 1- or 1.5-inch notebook should suffice}. The cover page comes in color and blackline.

printable chart for states, capitals, and abbreviations

2. a printable chart that you can print front to back of all 50 states, their capitals, and abbreviations organized by their region. I recommend putting it right up front.

5 Regions of the US Coloring Page

3. a single page for the 5 US regions

Regions and States of the USA - region page for NE region

4. a cover page for each region plus an introduction page where learners label each state in the region.

Regions and States of the USA - single page included for every state5. a single page for every state. This gives learners a closer glance at each state. To fill in the information for each page, learners can look online OR use books.

Materials & Books I recommend:

  • 1- or 1.5-inch notebook {I recommend one with a clear cover.}
  • a 3-hole punch

book recommendations for regions and states pages

  • books about the states {Both my son and daughter have enjoyed using The 50 States the most, but we also use National Geographic Kids’ United States Atlas.}
