Reading the Alphabet Letter G
This lesson’s focus is the letter Gg with the sight word- it. Gumballs kind of became our theme this week. He really enjoyed these particular “gumball” activities:
I love how colorful he made his gumball machine with all our different colors of do-a-dot paint! His absolute favorite activity from the week was our gumball print awareness (a pre-reading activity). MBug enjoyed it as well!
Glue on the “gumballs” (pom-poms make the best gumballs!)
Count your number, then glue on the sentence and read together.
Another thing that became a HUGE hit was our poke page adaption. We taped the poke page to a piece of construction paper. He poked away with our oversized push pins.
Once he finished poking his holes, we took off the tape and poke page and what a surprise shining through the window!
This boy really gets into his Handwriting Notebook, made simply with a 3-ring binder and plastic sleeve protectors.
I now place pretty much every page that requires writing in here and he will sit for a LONG time and just color,
trace, and work the mazes; even re-doing those activities from past lessons. It blows my mind because he is such an active little boy.
G is for GO! I plan on creating a post that will house all of my Book/Print Awareness ideas for each letter of the alphabet. For letter G, we focused on GO…as in where you start reading on each page (left to right).

There isn’t a link for the lesson plan. The lesson plan is in the zip file and the link for the zip file is at the end of the post where it says Click HERE.
This is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing! I loved reading your guest post about adapting and being flexible with young learners. My kids are very bright but they definitely don’t fit into my box at times … it was very frustruating … until the Lord helped me to see that the box was more for me than for their benefit and growth. I really appreciate your insight, as well as your creativity to find fun and new ways to make learning interactive and easy for different types of learners. Thanks again!!
Hello. Your lessons are amazing. I was wondering about the book/print awareness post you mentioned here. Do you have it in your blog now?
