Reading the Alphabet Letter D
In Lesson 8, the focus is the letter D and the sight word my. If you want to see all of the activities included for each section an activity in more detail, you can go to Lesson 1; in which I explicitly show how to implement these activities.
Letter D includes reading activities, such as:
Letter Dd Book– student book, available in color and in black and white (reading with our witch fingers)
Letter Dd Pocket Chart Version (to use with colored or black & white pictures). Construct the Letter Dd Book in a pocket chart word by word. Then, point and read along…great for concepts of print!
Sight Word Activities, such as:
Sight Word Search for the word my
my Poke Page– I’m amazed at how serious he gets over these!
Phonological Awareness Activities, such as:
Syllable Count and Clip-count syllables and clip the number
Sorting Picture Cards in Pocket Chart (I used picture cards from previous lessons)
Letter D Book/Print Awareness Skills, such as:
Donut Print Awareness- This was, by far, the biggest hit of the week!
Draw a donut, put on the glue, then sprinkle on the sprinkles…as many as you want. Eat a few in the process.
Glue down the sentence to match the picture.
D is for Direction- As we read, and did our print awareness activities, I reviewed where we start reading (left) and the direction in which we move; including the return sweep to the next row.
Letter D Handwriting
These tracer pages, made by Carisa, are awesome!
Letter D Math Games, such as:
20-Grid– He used our dog stamp to stamp as he rolled the dice. I originally saw this grid idea at Pre-Kinders.
D Cut and Pattern-
Cut out the d cards…
and create patterns with them. (He’s gotten really good at making patterns, I’ve had to start making it really tricky. This one did throw him for a loop.)

when I try to download the letter d lesson I keep getting a message that the file is corrupted. Any ideas?
THanks
Kate
Maybe try a different browser. I just tried in Chrome and it opened right up.
Hi there! I downloaded this file and it contained files with the previous lesson, AT Word Family. Am I able to get the D files?
Thanks for all that you do – this has been a wonderful resource for my 5 year old (who missed the cutoff date for Kindergarten)!
Thanks for letting me know! It should be fixed now. Download the file from the teal download button at the end of the lesson.
