Reading Review Pages for Kids
Once learners have read a book, it’s good for them to develop the ability to critique the book. In this free file, you’ll find three resources to help your learners do just this!
- First, there’s a “Reading Review” page that has space for 20 books or texts. This page can be used as a quick way to review 20 books at-a-glance. I can serve as a reading log, which is perfect for any time of year. {Hint: This is great to keep track of summer reading, too!}
- Second, there are “Reading Review” half pages where learners can rate the book or text with 1 to 5 stars {1 = bad, 5 = very good}. Once they’ve rated the book, they must write why they gave it the rating they did. Two options are included for the half pages. Each one has a different kind of writing line. The first one may work best for 1st grade while the second one may work best for older learners.
Answering why they rated the book in manner they did requires some critical thinking as they support their opinion.
To help them develop this skill, it is a good idea to model how to do this with books you read aloud to your learners. Share your opinions and critiques about the book and invite them to do the same.
