Here are the fun things we did with R is for Rainbows. I hope you enjoy!
I introduced the R sound with my sound tub. Contents: ribbon, rock, radio, rhinoceros, ring, & rectangle.
Our big craft/project for the week (it took the entire week) was to
cut the colored strips of paper (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, & purple)
on this big rainbow that I hand drew.
I got this idea from Laura @ Wallnut Hill Homeschool, but you can find this activity on her old blog here.
NJoy was VERY proud of his finished product
and wanted it hung so everyone could see it in the schoolroom.
The pictures hung under the big rainbow are:
- R Do-a-Dot
- Letter R Cutting and Pasting Sheet: What starts with R?
- Rainbow Magnet Page from Making Learning Fun. This is supposed to be done magnet chips, but NJoy likes do-a-dotting so much, as you can see from this picture,
R Rainbow Hunt with colored pom-poms to cover all the r’s
We did a little rainbow math. I had a few Skittles and M&M “fun” packs I’d saved from Halloween,
so we sorted Skittles and M&M’s (blue only) on this mat. After sorting, he told me how many he had of each color before he ate them. It’s amazing what kids will do for a little sugar…hehe.
We sorted several objects by color in these $1 store colored cups. His favorite (and MBug’s, too) this week was sorting these colored foam shapes I got in Target’s $1 bin.
Everyone got into coloring rainbows this week…
…well, almost everyone. I guess NJoy just has his own coloring style. 😉
Another favorite for everyone was the Rr Poke Page. They all had to have their own page printed off, even MBug!
ALuv still has his own schoolwork to do. But if he finishes, I will gladly print off extra activities for him to do. He never seems to mind that the work is too easy for him.
At the end of the week, we hung R is for Rainbow above NJoy’s Picture Word Wall.
Thank you for joining This Reading Mama on a literacy journey!
