Printable Book Scavenger Hunts
There are SIX free book hunts for kids.
Three are a great fit for younger learners {Pre-K through K/1st grade}. They include:
- Book Awareness Hunt {concepts related to books like how to hold books, where the title is, etc.}
- Print Awareness Hunt {find concepts of print}
- Story Time Hunt
There are two that are a great fit for older learners {2nd grade and up}:
- Fiction Hunt
- Nonfiction Hunt {finding text features within a book}
One final hunt is perfect for K and up.
- Read a Book Scavenger Hunt
Just print off the hunt of your choice and give it to your learner(s).
The best part is that kids can just use the books they own {or books from the library} to complete the boards. You don’t need to prepare or buy anything for them to play!
How to Play:
1. Learners read books, then find the things from their board. On the book and print awareness board, try finding these things with several different books of choice.
2. Once learners have found or done the items on their boards, they either check them off, color them, write the answer, or write the page number. Each board is a little different in the response that is required.
3. You can either do the hunt with them {if more support is needed} or let them do it all on their own. Either way, be sure to follow up by asking them to share the what they discovered with you. That way, you’re covering important book and comprehension concepts with them.
